Using the tool

The CO2 Storage Licence Tracker lets you track and review CO2 storage permits by type and status—including under review, granted, and denied—across multiple regions.

There are two types of permit

  • Exploration Permit: Allows site surveys and studies to assess suitability for CO2 storage, but not injection or storage itself.

  • Exploitation Permit: Authorizes injection and permanent storage of CO2, covering site operation and closure.
